Best Photo Storage and Sharing for Professional Photographers

If you’re a professional photographer, your pictures are both your lifeblood and the most expensive part of your business. Since the size of photos today can quickly fill up even large storage devices, you can easily spend thousands of dollars on external drives and other storage media. In addition to costing more money, managing all that external storage is time consuming and error prone. It’s easy to misplace an important photo just when a customer wants one in a hurry. Sharing photos with clients is also a problem, as it’s usually difficult to email more than one or two photos at a time.

As a professional, you need a backup plan for all your photos in the event of disaster, and making separate copies of everything you own and storing it in another location is costly and time consuming.

Wouldn’t you rather be spending more time with your clients rather than making backups of everything you own? And wouldn’t you rather be making more money off each photo instead of spending it on storage? Online storage and large file-sharing options such as Dropbox can help, but many of these plans lack the security required by professionals. As a professional photographer, you don’t want your photos splashed all over the Internet for everyone to see. To ensure the confidentiality of your clients, you need something more.

Let TappIn enter the picture! Tappin provides a secure and affordable alternative to Dropbox and other online solutions. With TappIn, you can upload all your photos to a secure environment that allows you to easily share large files with your customers for viewing, modification, and selection. mobile-photo-sharing.fwTappin also helps take care of your backup worries and can be part of an affordable and simple disaster recovery plan. In addition, if you need more storage, you can upgrade your plan instantly with a few mouse clicks instead of ordering new storage devices online and waiting for them to show up or wasting your time running to your local bricks and mortar store.

With all that TappIn has to offer, the best part is the price! In addition to being more efficient and effective, TappIn’s prices will be much lower than buying your own storage. The savings in both time and money will make your photography business more profitable and allow you to expand your business or upgrade your equipment. 5 Reasons Your Small Business Benefits from The Cloud

5 Reasons to Use the Cloud in Your Small Business

According to a recent article in Forbes.com, the total market for cloud services “is expected to grow from $76.9 billion in 2010 to $210 billion by 2016.” So far the numbers appear to be backing that assertion up. If you’re not using “the cloud” in your small business, here are five good reasons why you might want to start.

1) Secure File Sharing and Access
This is a big deal for businesses of all sizes. Cyber-security is becoming a major risk for businesses on a global scale. Laptops and mobile devices make it easier than ever for people to simply grab the devices that contain important information that places your business and your customers at risk. Rather than storing this information on insecure devices, you can have vital information that’s stored on secured servers in the cloud while allowing access to these important documents and information virtually anywhere and at any time by users who have the right file sharing app, like Tappin.

2) Bring Down Technology Costs
Most small businesses can’t easily afford a full time IT guy (or girl) on staff. It’s an expense that would be nice, considering the vulnerabilities many companies face when it comes to cyber security. However, it’s largely outside the realm of practicality. Storing information on secured clouds means that you have the benefits of a full-time IT staff to protect your information for a much more affordable price.

3) Convenience
It wasn’t that long ago when people had to carry portable filing cabinets around to keep up with all the paperwork they were responsible for. At least that’s what it felt like after eight to ten, or more, long hours of a workday. Now all you need is a smartphone, tablet computer, or laptop and you can access all those important files at any time of the day or night. It’s much more convenient than it’s ever been in the past.

4) Disaster Recovery
Recent years have shown devastating disasters that wiped out communities. Whether it’s forest fires, hurricanes, earthquakes, or tornadoes; disasters happen at the worst possible moments. Off-site storage of information in “the cloud” ensures that when bad things happen for the sake of your business, the information you’ve stored in the cloud is protected. This will help you, and your business, get back up and running much faster. It will also give you the tools you need to get in touch with customers to update them about what’s going on too.

5) Reduce Environmental Impact
How many trees are lost to creating additional paper copies of information so that multiple people in your business have access to it? Business owners interested in adopting a more earth-friendly way of doing business will appreciate the simplicity of this step in the process.

These are just a few of the general ways businesses benefit from operating in the cloud. If you look hard enough, you’re sure to find a few ways that are specific to your business. Then you can become part of the 41 percent of growth in expected cloud use the IDC’s “Worldwide and Regional Public IT Cloud Services 2012-2016 Forecast” has predicted over the next four years.

Benefits of Remote File Access for Your Small Business

Remote file access is so much more than a simple backup copy of all the important documents and files your business possesses. It’s easy access to this information no matter where you or your employees may be at the time. Here are five of the benefits your small business can enjoy with remote file access.

1) Access Files while at Client’s Site
Employees no longer need to bring large, heavy briefcases full of information with them to client’s sites. Whether you’re in the construction business, provide insurance estimates, or provide home health services; you can now access important construction plans and other information, insurance files, and medical records on-the-go. All you need is the right mobile app, such as Tappin, on your mobile device or laptop to securely access the information wherever your business takes you.

2) Better Time Management
It can take a great deal of time to drive back and forth gathering the correct documentation between clients. Searching through files and folders is another time consuming process. Even worse is going back and forth between offices or cubicles in search of one elusive document that got away. Having all the information stored in one convenient location for fast access by whomever needs it is the simplest solution for everyone.

3) Automatic Backups
Wouldn’t it be nice if you never needed to worry about losing important documents again? That day is here. Most businesses, sadly, just haven’t caught on quite yet. Remote file access means there’s already a secured backup of the information your small business requires.

4) Collaboration
No matter how many employees you have working on a given project at a time, or how limited or involved their roles may be, you can now allow as many employees as you need to have shared access to the same documents and information without printing out dozens (or even hundreds) of copies. This makes it easier than ever before to get the right information to the right people without any paperwork becoming lost in the transition.

5) Increased Productivity and Profitability
At the end of the day, this allows your employees to invest their talents where they are most needed, rather than on shuffling papers and packing them up for the day. You’ll get more productivity from them and that will lead to greater profits for your business.

Remote file access has a lot to offer small and large businesses alike. Perhaps the best benefit, for small business owners, is that you get the benefit of an IT department without the high costs.

How to Transfer Files from Your Computer to Your Android Smartphone

Android phone transfer files from computerIf you have an Android smartphone, odds are you use it for more than just making phone calls. Smartphones are designed for users who access multiple types of media from their phones on a regular basis. Whether it is music, videos, photos or basic documents, smartphones are capable of accessing and displaying that data unlike other phones.

But say you’ve downloaded a media file to your home computer, how can you transfer that file to your smartphone (or vice versa)? There are a couple of different apps available to you for transferring files from your computer to your Android mobile phone:

1. Android file transfer – this app allows Mac computer users to easily transfer data saved on their computer to their Android phone. However, this app requires that you physically connect your Android phone to your Mac computer with a special USB cord. The Mac computer and Android phone must stay connected until the file transfer has completed.

2. TappIn for Android app – this app allows you to transfer, share, and access data from your Android phone no matter where that data is saved. With the TappIn app, you can access data on your Mac, PC or Linux operating systems all from your Android phone without needing to connect the phone to the computer. With TappIn, you can remotely access, transfer, and share data.

Because people are using so many different digital devices (personal mobile phone, work cell phone, home computer, work computer, iPad, iPod, etc.) on a daily basis, these days being able to transfer, share, and access data between different devices from different manufacturers is becoming more and more important.

Whatever files you are transferring, sharing, or accessing, it’s important you pick an app that will allow you to easily and securely transfer, share, and access data between devices.

How to Remotely Access Your External Hard Drive from Your Smartphone

Do you know how many different digital devices you use in a day? Personally, my cell phone acts as my alarm clock as well as a phone. I listen to my iPod on the bus ride during my commute, work on my fancy desktop computer during business hours, then work on my (cheaper, less fancy) personal computer when I get home. That’s four different devices I use every day and I don’t even consider myself a very tech-savvy person!

Not only is the use of digital devices on the rise, but so are the ways in which you can save your data on these different devices. Online storage solutions have been designed specifically to allow you to save information online so that you may remotely access it from another device. However, there are a few issues to consider before using cloud storage:

  1. Cloud storage can get expensive
  2. Data must be saved online to access it
  3. Recent security breaches in online storage services

So, what if you could use your smartphone remote access to avoid all of these issues?

Well, by accessing your external hard drive with TappIn you can utilize your own storage solutions and avoid these issues:

  1. TappIn gives any web browser, tablet or smartphone unlimited access to your digital content, no matter where it is stored. And because with TappIn you are only paying for access, not storage, you don’t have to keep paying for it the more you use it.
  2. With TappIn, you don’t have to save or sync your files in one place to access them, because TappIn lets you access your files from your computer, network attached system (NAS), hard drive, online storage service, etc.
  3. TappIn not only keeps your digital content in the storage solutions you feel are most secure, but it also uses SSL encryption between you and your data so that you can rest assured that your content is being accessed securely.

So how can you remotely access your external hard drive from your smartphone with TappIn?

  1. On your smartphone, open your TappIn mobile app and select your home computer:
  2. You will then be taken to a page where you can select any files saved on your home computer.  Select the folder of your external hard drive (or NAS)

  3.  TappIn will display a list of all your files saved in that location.  Simply select the file you would like to access from the list and that’s it! Four taps and you’re done.

Four taps and you’re done.  Smartphone remote access of your external hard drive doesn’t get any easier than that!

How to Access and Share All of Your Files from Anywhere at Any Time

As more and more people use the internet to communicate with their friends, family and co-workers, many people have been asking for a simple and secure way of sharing and accessing documents online. Whether you’re looking to access sensitive work documents, or share private information with family and friends, there is only one solution that enables you to share and access all of your documents from anywhere at any time without having to save or move those documents. That solution is TappIn.

How to Access Your Files Anytime, Anywhere

Have you ever been at work or school and realized you’ve forgotten an important document or file on your home computer? Usually in this instance, most people chalk not having that document up to a loss, or if the document is extremely important they are required to get back home and get that document off of their home computer.

But with TappIn, once you download the TappIn app to your computer and mobile devices (including Apple iPhone or iPad, Google Android or Windows Phone 7), you will be able to quickly and securely access any and all documents you’ve saved on these devices from anywhere at any time.

How to Share Your Files Anytime, Anywhere

After downloading TappIn, whenever you wish to share a document, all you have to do is login, locate the file or folder you would like to share and click on it and tap “Share This File.” And because with TappIn, you don’t have to move or upload your documents anywhere else, you can relax knowing that your shared files never leave the safety of your computer.

Once you have selected “Share This File,” you can use TappIn’s one-click contact management tool to import contact information (from providers like Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail) from your mobile device and select which contacts you want to invite into your private TappIn network. Once those contacts accept your invitation, they can immediately access the documents you’ve selected to share with them.

Three Ways TappIn Beats the Competition in Document Access and Sharing

  1. No Need to Move or Upload Documents: As we’ve pointed out earlier, unlike other online document access and sharing solutions, TappIn doesn’t require you to store your documents in any one folder or file. With TappIn, you can access ALL of your files, folders, and documents no matter where they are saved.
  2. SecureShare Technology: For your more sensitive documents, TappIn’s SecureShare technology enables you to set authentication settings when sharing documents.  With SecureShare, you can require certain users to login before viewing the documents that have been shared with them. Permissions can also be set individually, allowing some recipients to view, edit, or download your document.
  3. TextShare: For the fastest and easiest way to share documents, TextShare enables you to share documents, files, folders with others via text messaging. With TextShare, a shortened URL (that cannot be tracked) to your document is sent to your recipients and they may access that document directly from their messages.

Not only is TappIn perhaps the easiest to use app for sharing and accessing documents, it is by far one of the most secure online file sharing options available today.

4 Mobile Apps that Facilitate Remote Access for Running a Business

Over 30 billion apps have been downloaded in the last year alone. But how many of these apps should businesses seriously use?

The four most important aspects of working remotely or from a mobile device are: secure access, easy communication, efficient expense tracking, and the actual doing of work on your phone or mobile device.

Here are 4 mobile apps that facilitate remote access for running a business:

1. For Accessing your Data Remotely – TappIn

Whether you use Cloud storage, Dropbox, Sugarsync, TappIn allows you to access your data (wherever it’s saved) from any mobile device at any time.  TappIn is the best solution for securely and remotely accessing your data.

2. For keeping in touch and telecommuting – GoToMeeting

Never miss another meeting again!  This allows users to participate in meetings via their mobile device.  Not only does it allow you to verbally communicate with other people attending the meeting, but it also allows you to see charts and graphs that are being shown at the meeting.

3. For keeping track of your expenses on the go – Expensify

Having trouble keeping track of business expenses?  Expensify’s SmartScan works with your phone by taking a picture of receipts of business expenses (recording the date, time, amount, etc.) and organizing that information within the app by syncing your bank accounts and credit cards to keep clearer track of spending.

4. For doing work – FormMobi

Also known as the digital clipboard, this app makes it easy for people in the field (away from a computer/office) to design and fill out customized forms.  A great app for a wide range of other professions, because it allows users to share multimedia style (including video, pictures, and graphs in your customized reports/forms) information with clients and coworkers.

Do you use any of these?

Did We Mention That We Love Working Here?

Well it’s not only our opinion, now it is a matter-of-fact. GlobalSCAPE, TappIn’s parent company, was just announced that for the second year in a row it was named to Texas Monthly Magazine’s 2012 list of “Best Companies to Work for in Texas”.

Over the past year, GlobalSCAPE has been named a top place to work by three other sources: the San Antonio Express-News, the San Antonio Business Journal, and Computerworld Magazine.

Here in Seattle, we’ve experienced the same first class treatment. The GlobalSCAPE team has been great to us and we’re excited to be a part of the family.

While winning such awards as these are truly an honor and make us thankful for our place of work, it sparked a great blogging opportunity to look at some of the less fortunate jobs in years past…

In The Dark Ages you may have had this job:

The Guillemot Egg Collector:
Farming could be unpredictable and food scarce, so guillemot eggs were an important source of protein in the Saxon peasant’s diet. The only trouble being that guillemots nest on ledges, precariously balanced on cliff sides, so collecting them meant risking life and limb hundreds of feet above jagged rocks and raging seas. And if this wasn’t dangerous enough, angry birds were likely to attack anyone trying to steal their precious eggs.” Found on the Discovery Channel online.

If you lived in The Middle Ages you could have had this occupation:

The Leech Collector: These poor unfortunates collected leeches – used for medicinal bloodletting – by wading into marshes and letting the little bloodsuckers cling to their legs. One leech is uncomfortable; imagine pulling a whole bucketful off your body! The wounds often became infected and bacteria from the leeches could cause nasty stomach upsets.” Found on the Discovery Channel online.

And finally, in the Georgian Era you could have had this job:

The Mule Scavenger: Georgian mill owners cared about profits and not about the lives of their workers – and the mule scavenger probably had the worst job in the mill. They were child apprentices, as young as eight, often from the local workhouse. They got board, lodgings and pocket money to crawl around under the ‘mules’ (weaving machines) and collect fluff and cotton. The mills were hot, humid and very noisy and mule scavengers worked 12 to 14 hours at a time, with no proper meal breaks. Concentration was everything, as they had to move with the rhythm of the ‘mule’. One slip and they could lose a finger, a hand or even their life, as they were crushed in the heavy machinery.” Found on the Discovery Channel online.

…Yeah, we’re definitely thankful for TappIn and GlobalSCAPE!
